I’ve spent some of my extra time at the library designing some events I think CRRL might benefit from. I began by reading CRRL’s Strategic Plan, which outlines directions, goals, and objectives for every library branch in this area. Using this information, I thought of events that would be congruent with these goals.
A couple ideas that stood out to me were College Readiness workshops and Open Mic Nights. Not only does this align with CRRL’s “Learn” and “Meet” directives, but other libraries across the country have replicated similar events with great success.
The Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association, also has specific pages dedicated to both College Preparation and Open Mic events. You can read about their recommendations and their resources here and here.
I used both YALSA’s recommendations and concrete examples from other libraries to draft my two proposals.
